Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO)
The Port Facility Security Officer is appointed by and reports to the Management of a port facility.
Port Facility Security Officers play an essential role in establishing and maintaining the security of their port facility. The Port Facility Security Officers responsibilities extend to maintaining effective communication on security matters with the Company Security Officer (CSO) and Ship Security Officers (SSO’s) of ships using or intending to use their port facility.
It is the efficiency and effectiveness of Port Facility Security Officers that underpins the successful application of the Maritime Security Measures.
Designated Authorities have specified that all Port Facility Security Officer ‘s should undertake training courses delivered by training providers that are approved by the Designated Authority.
The development and revision of a Port Facility Security Plan is the responsibility of the Port Facility Security Officer with regard to the approved Port Facility Security Assessment. Guidance on the preparation and content of Port Facility Security Plans can be found in the ‘Guide to Maritime Security and the ISPS code (subsection 3.7)
