Company Security Officer
The CSO course gives an understanding of the roles, duties and responsibilities of the CSO. The course will also define the interaction procedures with Port Facility Security Officers, Company Security Officers, Ship Security Officers and flag state officials.
The Company Security Officer (CSO) designated by a company would be responsible for one or more than one ship, depending on the number and types of ships the company operates. This responsibility is clearly identified and defined by the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code section A/2.1.7 and A/11.
Course Objectives:
- To understand the threats and impacts of terrorism on the maritime industry (Ships and Ports). As well as terrorist characteristics, weapons and devices.
- To have a sound knowledge of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and amendments to SOLAS.
- To understanding the maritime security policy and EU Regulations. As well as the maritime security organisation, including security roles and responsibilities.
- To have a sound knowledge of risk management principles and the principles of security and surveillance equipment, maintenance and calibration.
- To have a sound knowledge of the Ship Security Assessment (SSA) and the Port Facility Security Plan (PFSP).
- To understand the ship security actions and the port interface. (Notice of arrivals and Declarations of Security)
- To have a sound knowledge of how to identify a threat and what the correct response is.
- To understanding Anti-Piracy and Best Management Practice, Citadels and contingencies.
- To be able to understand the reasons for and how to do security administration, audit verification, documentation and records.
